The Pingtang-Luwu Canal, a key component of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, has opened up a direct river-sea shipping route from the Xijiang River to the Beibu Gulf, offering Southwest China the shortest water transport connection to the sea.
Seizing this opportunity, Guiyang International Land Port will deepen its integration with Guiyang FTZ. Using the zone's policy advantages, the port will enhance its multimodal transport infrastructure and launch top-tier freight services. This initiative will connect Guizhou's bulk commodities to coastal shipping routes through seamless road-river-rail-sea transport.
In the first half of 2026, Guiyang International Land Port ran 270 trains across the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, China-Europe/China-Central Asia Express, the China-Laos Railway, and the Guizhou-Guangdong Railway, marking a 31.73 percent year-on-year increase. Performance surged in June as container throughput topped 8,000 TEUs, while single-day volume hit a record 1,649 TEUs, both reaching all-time highs.
Guizhou-made products including tires, tea, tiles, electric vehicles, and auto parts are increasingly making their way to global markets. Meanwhile, return-trip China-Europe trains are ramping up imports, highlighted by the arrival of the first Central Asian return train in June 2026. Carrying 100 TEUs of feed ingredients from Kazakhstan to Guiyang in just 12 days, the route boosted transport efficiency by 80 percent compared to traditional methods.
Moving forward, Guiyang International Land Port plans to forge connections with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle. By using logistics to attract port-adjacent industries, the port aims to build an interconnected ecosystem spanning logistics, trade, industry, and finance.
