Established in 2013, the Guiyang Free Trade Zone (Guiyang FTZ) was the first comprehensive bonded zone in Guizhou province, instantly becoming a driving force for the province's export-oriented economic development.

Over the last decade, Guiyang FTZ has launched various policies to improve its business environment and benefit its resident companies. In 2023, the total import and export volume of Guiyang FTZ exceeded 10 billion yuan ($1.4 billion), showing a year-on-year growth of 29.89 percent.

In the performance evaluation of all 138 free trade zones nationwide, conducted by the General Administration of Customs last year, Guiyang FTZ ranked 72nd, rising by 57 places.

As of December 2023, Guiyang FTZ's Guiyang International Land Port sent and received 38,324 containers totaling 703,000 metric tons of goods, surpassing its annual target.

This included 2,638 containers for the China-Europe freight trains, indicating a year-on-year growth of 2.72 percent. Additionally, it oversaw the transportation of 110 containers for the China-Central Asia freight trains, as well as 13,222 containers for the Guizhou-Guangdong freight trains.

In the future, Guiyang FTZ will promote the regular operation of China-Laos and China-Central Asia freight trains. It will also schedule regular operations for the Guizhou-Guangdong and the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor freight trains.

Furthermore, efforts will be made to promote highway-rail transportation and sea-rail transportation, establish cold chain logistics, and attract industries involving imported grains and oils. The goal of these efforts is to advance the development of the zone's port industry while also further improving the functionality of areas under customs supervision.
