An online interview focusing on the Guiyang Free Trade Zone (FTZ) -- in Southwest China's Guizhou province -- which was conducted on June 28, had the theme of "Trade Leads the Construction of Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone" and was a key part of the 2020 Guiyang Import and Export Online Fair.
Officials said the interview invited as guest speakers Yao Feiyang, member of the Party Working Committee of the Guiyang FTZ and deputy director of the Guiyang FTZ Administrative Committee and Li Xianbo, director of the Shanghai Development Strategy Institute.
According to Yao, Guiyang FTZ is the first comprehensive bonded zone in Guizhou province.
The import and export volume of the zone has been ranked in the top three in Guiyang since it started operation in 2014, accounting for about 30 percent of the city's total volume. Even in the shadow of this year's global novel coronavirus epidemic, its import and export volume has maintained a good growth trend, making a positive contribution to the overall economic and social development of the city.
Officials said that as the core area of the Guiyang Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone, the Guiyang FTZ is striving to build itself as an inland hub port for the Western Land-Sea Trade Corridor. It will focus on industries -- including cross-border e-commerce, modern logistics and electronics information -- to work as an "engine" for Guiyang's open economy.
Yao also talked about the future development of the zone from the perspective of top-level designs, infrastructure, systems construction, market developments, logistics channels and cross-border e-commerce innovations.
Meanwhile, Li said that the development of the cross-border e-commerce industry based in the Guiyang FTZ had also brought great development opportunities to the inland city.
"Relying on the cross-border e-commerce industry to actively integrate into the development of the global economy and trade will greatly promote the export-oriented economic development of Guiyang and even Guizhou," he added.
They also discussed topics about the social and economic value of cross-border e-commerce development, as well as the integrated development of the Guiyang FTZ and Guian New Area FTZ.
